Gimme a Break! (1981)

Episode Overview

Joey decides to go on a hunger strike, refusing to go to an orphanage. In an attempt to change his mind, Nell fabricates a story about a man whose window she broke when she was a child, claiming they became friends. Joey, trusting Nell because he believes she’s honest unlike many adults, is convinced. Nell then confronts the Chief, insisting he owes her and that she deserves to foster Joey. Although the Chief initially disagrees, Joey supports Nell’s argument, acknowledging that he wouldn’t want himself as a foster child either. This shifts the Chief’s perspective, and Joey is welcomed into the family as their foster child.
