S02E04 Trust Me
Episode Overview
Melissa and Gary contemplate starting a family together. Gary spends his time volunteering at a social services center, where he feels both annoyed by and drawn to a blunt administrator. As they both face rejection at work, their bond deepens, especially with Hope and Michael expecting a baby. Gary visits the Race Street Project, a private social welfare agency, to discuss a mentoring program with Susannah Hart, who doubts his dedication. He is assigned to Curtis Caldwell, a Stanford-bound student reluctant to participate. Meanwhile, at a wedding, Melissa meets Russell Weller, a painter who has been admiring her at galleries, and he invites her to a party. At the party, Melissa discovers Russell's mood shifts after a phone call, leading her to realize he is gay and has just learned that a friend has contracted AIDS.
