Episode Overview

Gary’s choice to leave his teaching job and care for their newborn, Emma, creates tension with his mother. After a long night of Emma crying without a clear reason, Susannah feels hesitant about heading to work, but Gary encourages her to go. At work, she learns the nearby homeless shelter may be shut down for new condos, igniting her determination to fight against it. Meanwhile, Gary’s mother, Eileen, visits and mistakenly identifies Hope as Susannah. When Susannah returns late and the baby is asleep, Gary reveals his plans to become a stay-at-home dad, prompting Eileen’s disapproving “Oh.” Over the next few days, Eileen expresses her displeasure at Gary's decision to quit, leading to a heated discussion about his late father's dreams for him to attend law school. Eileen accuses Gary of dodging significant decisions and urges him to take charge of his life.
