Episode Overview
Major Joe Gallagher pulls out of a mission, leading to the death of his replacement, Captain Larry Hollander. Overcome with guilt, Gallagher seeks out Hollander’s fiancée, May, a kind-hearted British girl living with her Aunt Nell. He learns that they had plans to marry, and when May discovers the true reason for his visit, she is devastated. Gallagher begins to care for her, and they eventually fall in love. When he finds out she is pregnant, he proposes, but General Savage refuses to approve the marriage due to her lack of clearance. In a moment of despair, May attempts suicide. Gallagher returns to Savage for help, who sends Major Stovall to assess her. They find her at a dive bar, drinking with another man. When Gallagher confronts her, she denies everything, but things escalate when he asks her to take a pregnancy test.
