The Bill (1984)
S16E23 The Trial
Episode Overview
Santini stands trial at the Old Bailey, facing accusations of murdering Jessica Orton, but he attempts to shift the blame onto Quinnan and Rawton during his conversations with the CIB. A prison guard informs him that the drug charges against Sherman are being dropped in favor of a conspiracy to murder both Santini and Fox, who is later discovered dead in her hotel room, a victim of an apparent suicide. With Ferguson executed and Timpney coerced by Sherman’s enforcers, Santini's case begins to unravel. Hagen loses credibility with her Sun Hill colleagues after lying under oath and breaks down in the witness stand when caught. Ultimately, Santini is acquitted but is warned by his former cellmate that he now faces serious threats from Sherman’s henchmen.
