The Bill (1984)
S16E27 Over The Edge
Episode Overview
Brownlow and Mannion find themselves at a Metropolitan Police hearing concerning a Sergeant accused of ignoring a direct order, which led to another officer's career-ending injury. While Mannion quickly believes Sergeant Gartland is guilty, Brownlow has reservations. As Ch. Insp. Caine struggles to articulate the evidence against Gartland, supporting testimony from Sergeant Tillman at a different station starts to shift the narrative in Gartland's favor. However, when the injured officer, PC Beckett, takes the stand, her account seems overly defensive of Gartland's error, yet Brownlow still holds firm in his belief of Gartland’s innocence.
