Episode Overview

W.P.C. Martella and P.C. Edwards are out on patrol when they step in to break up a heated argument between a man and a young mother. Meanwhile, D.C. Dashwood is on his way to meet an informant when he narrowly avoids being hit by the same man Martella and Edwards just questioned. The mother, Brenda Knight, claims the man has kidnapped her baby but insists she doesn’t know him. Burnside, growing suspicious, pressures Brenda until she confesses that the kidnapper is Sam Rice, who had paid her £2,000 to be his surrogate but she refused to give up the child. After speaking with Rice’s wife, W.P.C. Ackland tracks him down at the hospital, where the baby is found safe and healthy.
