Overview
A beloved stop-motion animated series, The Wombles aired from 1973 to 1975, bringing to life the charming characters from the original 1968 book. Following its debut on BBC’s Jackanory, the BBC enlisted producer FilmFair to adapt the stories into a television format. Directed by Ivor Wood and produced by Graham Clutterbuck, the series featured the voice of Bernard Cribbins and intricate models crafted by Barry Leith. Comprised of two seasons totaling 60 five-minute episodes, The Wombles gained enduring popularity, leading to a revival in the late 1990s with new characters after FilmFair’s acquisition by Cinar Films.
