Bernard Cribbins
Bernard Cribbins (29 December 1928 - 27 July 2022) was a beloved English actor, voice-over artist, and musical comedian whose impressive career spanned more than five decades. He rose to fame in the 1960s, beginning his professional journey in the mid-1950s, and he remained an active performer well into the 2010s.
Cribbins became a household name in the UK, particularly remembered for his enchanting narration in the children's series The Wombles, which aired 40 episodes between 1973 and 1975. His talent extended beyond acting; in the early 1960s, he released several successful novelty singles, showcasing his musical abilities. Additionally, he became a familiar face on the BBC's Jackanory, where he captivated audiences with storytelling from 1966 to 1991.
One of his most notable later roles was as Wilfred Mott, the charming companion to the Tenth Doctor in the iconic series Doctor Who.
