Emil Gadsen has been at the helm of the Syndicate's vice operations in the Northeast, but now he’s looking to escape the country to dodge an impending indictment. He appoints his subordinate, Thor Coffin, to take over. Gadsen intends to bring along a list of bribed officials, which the IMF is determined to obtain. Barney poses as a psychic, visiting the gullible Gadsen to foretell of a looming threat “closer than a brother” — a statement that confuses Gadsen since he has no brother. He then drugs Gadsen, causing him to react in agony upon seeing a Death tarot card. Later, Gadsen and his son Tony encounter "Professor Gadaradz," Gadsen's doppelgänger played by IMF agent Scott.
