Sitting on a park bench in Chicago, Monica, Tess, and Andrew pore over the sensational stories in the Chicago Daily Guardian, a tabloid that boasts, "If It's The Truth, It's News." The angels grimace at the exaggerated headlines, and Tess points out that the truth encompasses more than just the mere "facts" presented. She reveals that Liz Bradley, the paper's editor, is afflicted by a contagious cynicism, making her Monica's new assignment. When Monica interviews for a reporter position, she meets Ray, a hopeful gofer eager to make his mark. Impressed by Monica, Liz hires her to investigate potential corruption between Mayor Hunley and Taiwanese officials, pairing her with Lauren, the Guardian's top reporter and Liz's younger sister. However, the sisters' constant bickering stems from Liz's obsession with work, leading to tension as Monica and Lauren begin their collaboration.
