Episode Overview

Seventeen-year-old Alex Wilson decides to break into the music store where he works to steal a guitar, unaware that his boss and mentor, renowned Blues musician Henry Baldwin, is working late. Armed with a gun, Henry enters the dimly lit store to confront the intruder, only to be stunned to discover it’s Alex. When Alex attempts to prevent him from calling the police, a struggle ensues, resulting in Henry’s tragic death. Alex is arrested, convicted, and sent to a local juvenile detention center until his sentencing. There, Monica oversees a group of boys, including Alex, who brags about his murder charge. Ronald, a figure from the records department, suggests to Monica that the boys need to connect. The following day, Tess surprises Alex with strawberry pancakes for his birthday, and as everyone gathers to sing "Happy Birthday," they inadvertently uncover a deeper bond among them.
