Episode Overview

Mike and Sully rush to help Black Kettle's camp, which is grappling with a typhus outbreak that begins after they inadvertently persuade Black Kettle to take in government blankets tainted with the virus. Mike is devastated and feels immense guilt as she witnesses the tribe's suffering. When Matthew contracts typhus, fear spreads through the town, leading them to confine the children in the clinic with Horace. Colleen cares for Matthew while Horace devises a plan to send the kids to the reservation to be with Mike. Meanwhile, the town prepares for the Fourth of July, oblivious to the tragedy unfolding as Native Americans face extinction and immigrants’ camp is destroyed by the hysteria surrounding the disease.
