Episode Overview

On April 22, 1943, with Christina's assistance, Rose and Bernard plot to escape their camps and rendezvous in the jungle during the Emperor's Birthday celebrations, when the guards will be occupied with festivities. Blanche joins Rose as an escort to guide her to the meeting spot. As Rose and Bernard meet, they express their hopes of marrying once the war concludes and they regain their freedom. Meanwhile, Kate and Marion catch wind of their plan just as the guards do. Sato sends them into the jungle to search for the couple, and the women are left horrified when gunfire shatters the night. Christina decides to step back from her role as a courier for the underground. Joss and Blanche strategize against the guards, while Lillian remains preoccupied with Bobby's health. Dr. Trier is sent back, leaving Bea to oversee the infirmary, and Kate contemplates pursuing a medical career after the war.
