Episode Overview

In late 1933, an outbreak of truck hijackings swept through Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, orchestrated by the notorious Tri-State Gang, comprised of six criminals. This evening in Richmond, Virginia, they set their sights on a truck filled with radios. As is typical, "Big" Bill Phillips, a towering figure at 6'4", commandeers the stolen vehicle, moving the cargo to their own truck. Meanwhile, Artie McLeod, a petty gambler with a flair for the dramatic, covers the driver’s head with a burlap sack, rendering him blind, and secures him to a nearby tree with chains.
