Joe Lassiter is the top inside man in the bootlegging business. Along with his partner, Nick Karabinos, he has just stepped off a train in Chicago after a 1,000-mile journey for a lucrative $250,000 deal: to construct a brewery that can withstand any scrutiny from Ness. At the now-shuttered Bell Club, which Ness dismantled the previous week, Lassiter has a meeting with bootlegging kingpin Louis Tully and his crew.
