Episode Overview
Farmer Reg Manston notices one of his cows is gravely ill and calls Nick for help. Upon Nick's arrival, Manston expresses concern that the cow may have contracted the highly infectious Foot and Mouth disease. Local vet Martin Thomas is summoned to test Manston's herd and contacts the Ministry of Agriculture while sending samples for confirmation. As part of the outbreak regulations, Nick is tasked with monitoring the farm entrance to prevent anyone from entering or leaving. The outbreak affects the entire community, leading to canceled social events, much to George’s frustration as his bar sits empty. Meanwhile, Sam Carver, a neighboring farmer, disregards the regulations by moving his infected dead sheep. Tragically, to contain the outbreak, Manston's entire herd is culled and incinerated.
