Steve Railsback
Steve Railsback, born on November 16, 1945, in Dallas, Texas, is a prominent American actor known for his impactful roles in theatre, film, and television. He gained significant recognition for his performances in notable films such as *The Stunt Man* and *Lifeforce*, as well as for his chilling portrayal of Charles Manson in the acclaimed 1976 miniseries *Helter Skelter*.
Railsback's acting journey began under the mentorship of legendary acting teacher Lee Strasberg at the Actors Studio. Throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s, he dedicated a decade to honing his craft on stage in New York City, though he later described his experience with Strasberg as quite challenging.
His cinematic debut was in *The Visitors*, a film directed by the esteemed Elia Kazan. Railsback's talent for embodying complex characters is further exemplified by his roles as infamous figures; he portrayed Manson in *Helter Skelter* and took on the role of Ed Gein in the 2000 film *In the Light of the Moon*, which he also executive produced.
In addition to these roles, Railsback's career features memorable performances as Cameron in *The Stunt Man*, astronaut Tom Carlsen in Tobe Hooper's *Lifeforce*, Duane Barry in *The X-Files*, and Joseph Welch in the pilot episode of *Supernatural*.
