John Amos
John Amos (December 27, 1939 – August 21, 2024) was a notable American actor and former professional football player. He gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of the adult Kunta Kinte in the groundbreaking miniseries "Roots," as well as for his role as James Evans Sr. in the popular CBS series "Good Times." Amos received nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award and an NAACP Image Award for his impactful performances. His film career includes a variety of supporting roles in notable movies such as "The Beastmaster" (1982), "Coming to America" (1988), "Lock Up" (1989), "Die Hard 2" (1990), and "Coming 2 America" (2021).
Before embarking on his acting career, Amos was a member of the Colorado State Rams football team. In 1964, he signed as a free agent with the Denver Broncos of the American Football League, followed by a similar contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1967. However, he was unable to secure a position on either team and ultimately concluded his football journey with the Victoria Steelers in the Continental Football League. After his stint in football, Amos transitioned into acting, where he made a significant impact on both television and film, leaving a lasting legacy in the entertainment industry.
