Dana Elcar (October 10, 1927 – June 6, 2005) was a prominent American actor known for his work in television and film. With a career spanning several decades, Elcar appeared in approximately 40 films, but he is perhaps best recognized for his role as Peter Thornton on the popular series *MacGyver*, which aired throughout the 1980s and 1990s. As the administrator at the Phoenix Foundation, his character became a central figure in the show's narrative.
Interestingly, Elcar's connection to *MacGyver* began before he assumed the role of Thornton. He made an appearance in the pilot episode as a character named Andy Colson, showcasing his versatility. However, it was his portrayal of Peter Thornton that solidified his place in television history, with his first regular appearance occurring in the 11th episode of the inaugural season.
