A prominent figure in American entertainment, he excelled as an actor across stage, screen, and radio, and also took on the role of a film director. Barrymore achieved significant acclaim when he won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his captivating performance in the 1931 film A Free Soul.

Modern audiences often recognize him as the scheming Mr. Potter from Frank Capra’s beloved 1946 classic, It’s a Wonderful Life.
