Chieko Higashiyama (September 30, 1890 – May 8, 1980) was a distinguished Japanese actress whose career spanned several decades. After completing her education at Gakushuin Girls’ School, she married a businessman in 1909 and spent eight years living in Moscow. It was not until 1925, at the age of 35, that she pursued her passion for acting, enrolling at the Tsukiji Shōgekijō, a renowned theater celebrated for its innovative adaptations of both modern Japanese plays and Western classics.

Higashiyama became known for her powerful performances on stage, most notably as Madame Ranevskaya in Anton Chekhov's timeless play "The Cherry Orchard." Her stage presence and emotional depth resonated with audiences, solidifying her reputation as a leading actress of her time.
