Hume Cronyn
Hume Blake Cronyn Jr. (July 18, 1911 - June 15, 2003) was a distinguished Canadian-American actor and writer whose career spanned several decades. He gained early recognition for his work in classic films such as Alfred Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt (1943) and Lifeboat (1944). Cronyn is perhaps best known for his collaborations with his second wife, the celebrated actress Jessica Tandy. The couple starred together in a number of notable films, including The World According to Garp (1982), Cocoon (1985), and *batteries not included (1987). Their partnership flourished from their marriage in 1942 until Tandy's passing in 1994.
In addition to his acting, Cronyn was an accomplished playwright, co-creating the play Foxfire and the television film The Dollmaker with his third wife, Susan Cooper. His extensive body of work earned him critical acclaim, highlighted by an Academy Award nomination, three Emmy Awards, and two Tony Awards. Cronyn's contributions to both stage and screen have left an indelible mark on the performing arts, establishing him as a versatile and talented figure in the entertainment industry.
