Rishi was born in Bangalore, Karnataka, India, and raised in Mysore. He is the son of Sri K C Nagaraj, a bank official at Kaveri Grameena Bank, and Anala Nagaraj, a dedicated homemaker. Initially named Monish Nagaraj, he completed his primary education at St Joseph's Primary School in Mysore before moving on to Marimallappa's College for his Pre-University course. He later earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering in Mysore.

During his time at university, Rishi discovered a strong passion for acting, which led him to participate in various amateur theater groups in Mysore. He took on a leadership role as the head of the dramatics team at his college, which allowed him to hone his skills and explore his love for performance. In addition to his theatrical pursuits, Rishi also ventured into the world of radio, working as a Radio Jockey outside of his academic commitments. His diverse interests and talents have shaped his journey, highlighting a blend of engineering and performing arts.
