Janis Paige

Janis Paige, born Donna Mae Tjaden on September 16, 1922, in Tacoma, Washington, was a celebrated American actress known for her work in film, musical theatre, and television. Her journey into the performing arts began at the tender age of five, when she captivated audiences in local amateur shows. After completing high school, she relocated to Los Angeles, where she gained early experience as a singer at the Hollywood Canteen during World War II—a venue that caught the attention of Warner Bros., leading to her signing with the studio.

Paige's film debut featured her in various musical roles alongside stars like Dennis Morgan and Jack Carson. However, after her performance in the 1951 film *Two Gals and a Guy*, she chose to step away from Hollywood. This pivotal decision led her to Broadway, where she achieved significant acclaim with the comedy-mystery *Remains to Be Seen* in 1951, partnering with Jackie Cooper. Her talents also shone on the cabaret circuit, performing in major cities like New York, Miami, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles.

Her breakout moment in 1954 came with the role of "Babe" in the hit Broadway musical *The Pajama Game*, a part later immortalized on film by Doris Day. After a brief hiatus, Paige returned to cinema in *Silk Stockings* (1957) and later appeared in *Please Don't Eat the Daisies* (1960) and *Bachelor in Paradise* (1961), showcasing her versatility. One of her notable dramatic performances was as "Marion," a troubled woman in *The Caretakers* (1963).
