Jeremy Irons
Jeremy John Irons, born on September 19, 1948, is a renowned English actor and advocate. He honed his craft at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, launching his theatrical career in 1969, and has since graced the stages of numerous West End productions. His impressive repertoire includes Shakespearean classics like The Winter's Tale, Macbeth, Much Ado About Nothing, The Taming of the Shrew, and Richard II. In 1984, he made his Broadway debut in Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing, for which he won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play.
Irons gained widespread recognition for his role in the ITV series Brideshead Revisited (1981), often cited as one of the finest British dramas and literary adaptations, a performance that earned him a Golden Globe nomination. His film career took off with a significant role in The French Lieutenant's Woman (1981), receiving a BAFTA nomination for Best Actor. He continued to excel in roles within various dramas, including Moonlighting (1982) and The Mission (1986), and garnered acclaim for his dual performance as twin gynecologists in Dead Ringers (1988). His portrayal of Claus von Bülow in Reversal of Fortune (1990) earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor.
Irons's extensive filmography features notable works such as Kafka (1991), The House of the Spirits (1993), and voicing Scar in Disney's The Lion King (1994). He also appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. On television, he won both a Golden Globe and an Emmy for his role in Elizabeth I and starred as Pope Alexander VI in The Borgias. Irons is one of the select few to have achieved the "Triple Crown of Acting" in the U.S. and was appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN in October 2011.
