Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, known professionally as Nas, was born on September 14, 1973. He is a renowned American rapper and businessman whose roots lie in East Coast hip hop. Widely celebrated as one of the most influential figures in the genre, Nas's impact on music is profound.

His journey began in 1989 when he adopted the nickname "Nasty Nas" and collaborated on demos with Large Professor. In 1991, he gained attention as a featured artist on Main Source's "Live at the Barbeque." Nas's debut album, *Illmatic*, released in 1994, received critical acclaim and is often hailed as a landmark in hip hop history; it was inducted into the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry in 2021. His sophomore effort, *It Was Written* (1996), debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and solidified his status in the music industry.

Throughout his career, Nas faced challenges, including a significant rivalry with Jay-Z from 2001 to 2005, which was marked by the infamous diss track "Ether." However, his albums during this period, such as *Stillmatic* (2001) and *God's Son* (2002), revitalized his reputation. After reconciling with Jay-Z, he joined Def Jam Recordings and embraced a more politically charged style with projects like *Hip Hop Is Dead* (2006).

Nas has released fourteen studio albums, achieving numerous accolades, including his first Grammy Award for Best Rap Album with *King's Disease* in 2020. Acknowledged for his lyrical prowess, he has consistently ranked among the greatest MCs of all time and is also an entrepreneur, with ventures including his own record label and Mass Appeal magazine.
