Mandy Patinkin
Mandel "Mandy" Bruce Patinkin, born on November 30, 1952, is a renowned American actor and singer celebrated for his impactful contributions to musical theatre, television, and film. With a rich background in Broadway, he has worked alongside legendary composers such as Stephen Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Patinkin's remarkable performances have garnered him a Tony Award and a Primetime Emmy Award, along with multiple nominations, including seven Drama Desk Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Patinkin's theatrical journey began in 1975 with a notable debut opposite Meryl Streep in the revival of Trelawny of the "Wells" at The Public Theatre's Shakespeare Festival. He gained acclaim for his portrayal of Che in the original Broadway production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita (1979), winning a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. His role as Georges Seurat/George in Sondheim's Sunday in the Park with George (1984) earned him a Tony nomination for Best Actor in a Musical, while he also played Lord Archibald Craven in the original cast of The Secret Garden (1991). Patinkin starred as Burrs in The Wild Party (2000) and returned to Broadway as Marvin in Falsettos (1993).
In television, he is recognized for his roles as Dr. Jeffrey Geiger in Chicago Hope (1994–2000), SSA Jason Gideon in Criminal Minds (2005–2007), and Saul Berenson in Homeland (2011–2020), winning an Emmy for Chicago Hope. His film credits include iconic roles such as Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride (1987) and Avigdor in Yentl (1983). He has also lent his voice to characters in Hayao Miyazaki's acclaimed films, Castle in the Sky (2003) and The Wind Rises (2013).
