In June 1940 Berlin, as the Nazi regime revels in its triumph over France, Anna and Otto Quangel's home in Prenzlauer Berg is steeped in sorrow. Their son has fallen in battle, shattering their once steadfast loyalty to the Führer. Disillusioned by the regime's false promises, the couple embarks on a dangerous campaign of resistance, penning provocative postcards that cry out against the war and call for Hitler's downfall. As they secretly distribute these messages throughout their tenement, they face increasing peril from the SS, Gestapo, and even their own neighbors.
