Plot
A well-meaning but naive prison chaplain, sharing a surname with a distinguished cleric, is mistakenly assigned to lead a wealthy country parish. His ideals of charity and compassion clash with the town's conservative residents. He stirs controversy by appointing a black dustman as churchwarden, welcoming a gypsy family, and convincing a local landowner to donate food for the needy. As the congregation demands his removal, the Church of England faces a dilemma—until one clergyman discovers a surprising opportunity involving an astronaut for Britain's space program, complicating the situation further.
