Plot

In the early days of World War I, Paul Baumer, a spirited young German, is swept up by patriotic fervor and the propaganda fed to him in school. Along with his classmates, he eagerly enlists in the military after graduation. However, as the brutal realities of combat unfold and he witnesses the death and suffering of his friends, Paul begins to grapple with the futility of the conflict, realizing that the struggle for mere inches of devastated land comes at an unimaginable cost. His faith in the war's purpose crumbles amidst the chaos and destruction.
