Plot
Ten-year-old Jared Marshall struggles to cope after his parents' divorce, which left him feeling abandoned. Relocating to California with his mother, who has taken a new job, only adds to his turmoil. During a class project writing letters to troops stationed in Bosnia, Jared connects with Sergeant First Class Vince Carerra, who offers him fatherly guidance through their correspondence. Upon returning to Fort Sebastian, Vince visits Jared and becomes a positive influence in his life, even stepping into the role of baseball coach. With some encouragement, he also forms a bond with Jared's mother, though he remains cautious about commitment due to potential redeployment.
