Plot
"Ludwig" unfolds the dramatic life of Ludwig, the Bavarian king, chronicling his reign from his coronation in 1864 to his untimely demise in 1886. Portrayed as a romantic figure, Ludwig is an ardent admirer of composer Richard Wagner, only to face betrayal from his idol. His unrequited love for his cousin, Elisabeth of Austria, adds to his heartache, as she ultimately forsakes him. Struggling with the complexities of his sexuality, Ludwig’s internal turmoil intensifies, leading him down a path of increasing madness.
