Plot

Henry Fleming, a young soldier in the Union army during the Civil War, grapples with fear as he flees his first battle. Stricken with shame after hearing of his unit's victory, he fabricates a story of injury to cover his cowardice from his friend Tom and fellow troops. However, when his unit is ordered to lead a charge against the enemy, Henry seizes the chance to confront his fears and prove his bravery, striving for redemption on the battlefield he once abandoned.
