Andy Devine
Andrew Vabre "Andy" Devine (October 7, 1905 – February 18, 1977) was an iconic American character actor, renowned for his unique raspy voice and memorable performances in Western films.
Devine is perhaps best known for portraying Cookie, the loyal sidekick to Roy Rogers in ten feature films, which solidified his presence in the genre. His impressive filmography also includes notable appearances alongside legendary actor John Wayne in classics such as Stagecoach (1939), The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, and How the West Was Won (both released in 1962).
In addition to his film career, Devine gained widespread recognition for his role as Jingles in the television series The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok, which aired from 1951 to 1958. His versatility extended to the silver screen beyond Westerns; he played Danny McGuire in the acclaimed musical A Star Is Born (1937) and lent his voice to the character of Friar Tuck in Disney's animated feature Robin Hood (1973).
