Plot

Bob Seton, a newcomer to Lawrence, Kansas, is enchanted by the town and its charming local banker’s daughter, Mary McCloud. However, the atmosphere is charged with pre-Civil War tensions surrounding slavery. Seton seizes the chance to run for marshal, facing off against seemingly respectable schoolteacher William Cantrell. Beneath Cantrell's polished exterior lies a ruthless ambition, leading him to form a gang of raiders after losing the election. As Cantrell's violent campaign escalates, Seton and the determined citizens of Lawrence must unite to confront the looming threat in a dramatic showdown.
