Alexander Vanin, convicted of espionage, has concealed a list of agents active in the U.S. His handler, Mishenko from the EEPR, is desperate to obtain it, but Vanin is unwilling to cooperate, fearing that Mishenko will abandon him. The IMF sets out to retrieve the list. Vanin has hypnotized himself to forget its whereabouts, and only his wife, Olga, holds the key to his memory. Jim brings Olga to the U.S., while Barney and the team create a diversion at the EEPR Consulate with a bomb scare. They stage a party for the couple's reunion, all while Mishenko waits nearby. As the fake guests slip away, Mishenko arrives, and Vanin, wanting to prove his loyalty, has Olga trigger his memory, unaware that the IMF is eavesdropping and racing to the bus where he stashed the list before Mishenko can intervene.
