Mission: Impossible (1966)
S06E09 Invasion
Episode Overview
An earthquake wreaks havoc on the U.S. Distant Early Warning (DEW) system, and Defense Department advisor Whitmore Channing takes advantage of the chaos by stealing Air Force plans that outline critical vulnerabilities. He intends to hand off this information to an enemy agent the next day. The IMF's mission is to extract the agent’s name and flight information from Channing. They evacuate his entire city block and knock him out with a simulated electrical shock, only to wake him up a day later, making him think the data has already been taken. To reinforce this illusion, they stage a fake invasion of the European People's Republic, leading to Channing's arrest and trial. Desperate to prove his innocence, he divulges the drop location, but the IMF secretly informs him it’s all a ruse. Channing contacts his associate, unwittingly revealing his identity, and the IMF taps the line to apprehend the agent before he can retrieve the stolen information.
