Charles John Mahoney (June 20, 1940 – February 4, 2018) was a distinguished English-American actor best known for his portrayal of retired police officer Martin Crane on the acclaimed NBC sitcom *Frasier*, which aired from 1993 to 2004. His performance earned him nominations for two Golden Globe Awards and two Primetime Emmy Awards, solidifying his status in the television landscape.

Born in England, Mahoney relocated to the United States, where he began his acting journey with the renowned Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago. His talent was recognized on Broadway when he won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his role in the 1986 revival of John Guare's *The House of Blue Leaves*. Mahoney gained further fame with his roles in notable films such as *Suspect* and *Moonstruck*, both released in 1987. His impressive filmography also includes *Tin Men* (1987), *Frantic* (1988), *Eight Men Out* (1988), *Say Anything...* (1989), *Barton Fink* (1991), *Striking Distance*, and *In the Line of Fire* (both 1993).
