Leslie William Nielsen (February 11, 1926 – November 28, 2010) was a celebrated actor and comedian hailing from Canada, later becoming a prominent figure in American cinema. Over his expansive career, he showcased his talent in more than one hundred films and approximately 1,500 television shows, embodying over 220 distinct roles. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Nielsen first served in the Royal Canadian Air Force before transitioning to a career as a disc jockey, ultimately earning a scholarship to the Neighborhood Playhouse to hone his acting skills.

Nielsen made his television debut in 1948 and quickly became a familiar face, accumulating over 50 television appearances by 1950. His film career began in 1956, where he took on a variety of roles in dramas, westerns, and romance films, earning acclaim for performances in notable features like Forbidden Planet and The Poseidon Adventure. However, it was his role in the 1980 comedy Airplane! that transformed his career, leading film critic Roger Ebert to liken him to "the Olivier of spoofs."

Nielsen enjoyed immense popularity with The Naked Gun series from 1988 to 1994, which originated from the short-lived series Police Squad! His unique ability to portray serious characters in absurd situations solidified his comedic legacy. In his later years, he starred in several parody films that, while not critically acclaimed, found success with audiences. Nielsen was married four times and had two daughters from his second marriage. Throughout his career, he received numerous accolades, including inductions into both the Canada and Hollywood Walks of Fame.
