Plot
Roy Fleming, a timid kiddie-ride operator with a crippling fear of heights, is thrown into chaos when his father enrolls him in the space program. Arriving in Houston, he discovers his actual role is as a janitor, not an astronaut. Desperate to meet his father's lofty expectations, Roy pretends to be part of the astronaut team. When NASA plans to send an ordinary person into space to test a new automated spacecraft, Roy sees an unexpected opportunity to face his fears head-on and redefine his own limits.
