Earle Hodgins
Earle Hodgins (October 6, 1893 – April 14, 1964) was a prominent American actor recognized for his dynamic performances in film and television throughout his extensive career.
Hodgins began his artistic journey in stock theater, showcasing his talent with the Ralph Cloninger troupe in Salt Lake City and later with the Siegel Stock Company in Seattle. His filmography is impressive, featuring over 330 productions from 1932 to 1963, with a particular knack for portraying fast-talking con artists, especially in the western genre. Some of his notable appearances include classic series such as The Lone Ranger, Judge Roy Bean, The Cisco Kid, and Gunsmoke. He also made memorable contributions to shows like Maverick and The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok.
In the 1960-1961 television season, Hodgins portrayed "Lonesome," an aging ranch wrangler, in the ABC sitcom Guestward, Ho! His performance in the episode "Lonesome's Gal," alongside ZaSu Pitts, remains a highlight of his later career.
Beyond his roles as con men and carnival barkers, Hodgins was known for his memorable quips, famously telling rowdy children, "Get away, son, ya bother me."
In his personal life, he was married to Sue Hanley, noted in the press as a "Seattle society girl." Hodgins left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry, remembered for his distinctive characters and contributions to American cinema and television.
