Francis Curray "Frank" McHugh (May 23, 1898 – September 11, 1981) was a prominent American actor known for his extensive work in film and television. Hailing from Homestead, Pennsylvania, McHugh was steeped in theatrical tradition, with his family operating a stock theater company. He made his stage debut as a child and was performing alongside his siblings by the age of ten. His family, however, stepped away from the stage around 1930, while his brother Ed pursued a career as a stage manager in New York.

McHugh’s professional journey began on Broadway with his role in The Fall Guy in 1925, after which he signed a contract with Warner Bros. in 1930. Throughout his career, he showcased his versatility in over 150 films and television shows, often oscillating between leading roles and comic sidekicks. Notably, he became a frequent collaborator of James Cagney, appearing in eleven films together between 1932 and 1953, forging a lifelong friendship.

As the 1950s progressed, McHugh's film appearances began to wane, highlighted by his smaller role in Career (1959). He transitioned to television, starring as Willie Walters in ABC's The Bing Crosby Show from 1964 to 1965. His final television role was as Charlie Wingate in the CBS western series Lancer.

McHugh was married to Dorothy Spencer and was a devoted father to three children, with two grandchildren to carry on his legacy.
