Raymond Burr
Raymond William Stacey Burr (May 21, 1917 – September 12, 1993) was a celebrated Canadian actor, best recognized for his iconic roles in the television series *Perry Mason* and *Ironside*. Burr's journey in the entertainment industry began with diverse performances on Broadway, radio, and film, where he frequently portrayed antagonistic characters. His portrayal of the titular defense attorney in *Perry Mason* earned him two Emmy Awards in 1959 and 1961, and he held the role for nine successful seasons from 1957 to 1966. Following that success, his performance in *Ironside* garnered six Emmy nominations and two Golden Globe nominations, solidifying his status as a television legend. Beyond acting, Burr had a passion for horticulture, owning an orchid business, and he ventured into winemaking with the development of a vineyard. An avid collector of fine wines and art, he also enjoyed cooking.
Following his death from cancer in 1993, aspects of Burr's personal life drew attention, as discrepancies emerged regarding his publicly shared biography. Over time, it was suggested that he may have constructed a narrative that concealed his homosexuality, adding layers to his complex legacy.
