Alfonso Bedoya
Alfonso Bedoya (April 16, 1904 – December 15, 1957) was a prominent Mexican actor known for his roles in both American and Mexican cinema. Hailing from the small town of Vicam in Sonora, Mexico, he was of Yaqui Indian descent and experienced a peripatetic childhood before receiving his education in Houston, Texas.
Bedoya's career took off in the 1930s and 1940s, where he established himself as a versatile character actor in the film industries of the United States and Mexico. Over the course of his career, he appeared in more than 175 films, showcasing his remarkable range and talent. His distinctive presence and powerful performances made him a notable figure in the cinematic landscape of that era.
Among his most memorable works, Bedoya is perhaps best remembered for his iconic role as Gold Hat in the classic 1948 Western "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre," where his unforgettable line, "I don't need no stinkin' badges!" became a cultural touchstone. His final film, "The Big Country," was released posthumously in 1958, solidifying his legacy in film history.
