He gained significant acclaim for his portrayal of the infamous Chicago mobster Sam Giancana in Jon Cassar's Emmy-nominated miniseries, The Kennedys, where he acted alongside Tom Wilkinson and Barry Pepper. In addition to his work in The Kennedys, Houde featured in the 2011 film 50/50, starring alongside Seth Rogen, where he played the father of Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character and the husband of Anjelica Huston's character, who was battling Alzheimer's disease. He took on the role of The Doctor in episode 9 of Mortal Kombat: Legacy, a web series inspired by the popular video game, directed by Kevin Tancharoen. In 2014, he earned a Leo Award nomination for Best Guest Performance by a Male in a Dramatic Series for his part as drug lord David Thorpe in CTV's undercover cop drama, Played.
