O'Brian gained fame for his lead portrayal in the ABC western series The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp, which aired from 1955 to 1961. He also starred in the NBC action series Search from 1972 to 1973. His film credits include the 1965 adaptation of Agatha Christie's Ten Little Indians and a significant supporting role in John Wayne's final movie, The Shootist, released in 1976.
