Plot

In "The Shootist," John Bernard Books, the final iconic gunfighter, confronts his terminal illness by returning to Carson City for help from his longtime friend, Dr. Hostetler. Knowing his end is near, he hopes to find tranquility at a boarding house managed by a widow and her son. Yet, fate has other plans for Books, as he is drawn into one last courageous showdown, disrupting his search for peace and forcing him to face the legacy of his violent past.
