Richard Allen Boone (June 18, 1917 – January 10, 1981) was a distinguished American actor renowned for his work in over 50 films, particularly in the Western genre, and for his iconic role in the television series *Have Gun – Will Travel*.

Born in Los Angeles, California, Boone was the middle child of Cecile Beckerman and Kirk E. Boone, a corporate attorney and a direct descendant of Squire Boone, the brother of the legendary frontiersman Daniel Boone. His mother was of Jewish heritage, being the daughter of Russian immigrants.

Boone completed his education at Hoover High School in Glendale, California, before attending Stanford University, where he joined the Theta Xi fraternity. However, he left the university before graduating and took on various jobs, including working as an oil rigger and bartender. In 1941, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific during World War II as an aviation ordnance aircrewman and tail gunner on Grumman TBF Avenger torpedo bombers, ultimately achieving the rank of petty officer first class.

His early exposure to theater at the San Diego Army and Navy Academy sparked Boone's passion for acting, which he pursued after the war with the assistance of the G.I. Bill at the Actors Studio in New York. Boone made his film debut in 1950 in *Halls of Montezuma* and quickly gained recognition for roles in various military-themed films.

Throughout his life, Boone had three marriages: to Jane Hopper, Mimi Kelly, and Claire McAloon, with the latter lasting until his passing. He died in St. Augustine, Florida, from complications related to throat cancer, and his ashes were scattered in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Hawaii.
