Plot

Cable Hogue, abandoned in the arid desert and desperate for water, discovers a life-saving spring. Seizing the opportunity, he establishes a crucial rest stop along the stagecoach route, building a home and profiting from weary travelers. Hogue’s fortunes rise further when he forms a bond with Hildy, a local prostitute who moves in with him. However, his newfound success faces an unexpected threat as the arrival of automobiles begins to eclipse the stagecoach era, forcing Hogue to confront the harsh realities of change and survival in the shifting landscape.
